Thai, Khmer and Preah Vihear: How the new conflict started
from: thaiphotoblogs.com
There is no doubt that our Khmer ancestors built the temple of Preah Vihear and hundreds of other Temples which presently remain in Thailand and Laos. The world knows that.
Check this out for where the Thai come from: http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/574
In the last few hundreds years Cambodia has lost many huge provinces to Siam (now has been renamed as Thailand) and to South Vietnam (now has become simply Vietnam.)
In 1962, following a lengthy dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over ownership, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague awarded the temple to Cambodia.
Regardless, Thailand has so far gained so much territories from Cambodia and yet it continues to want more.
On July 7, 2008, Preah Vihear was listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site. Thailand has used the listing as its excuse to build up troupes in order to pressure Cambodia to come to the negotiation table.
Let's hear some of the old reports when Thailand began it new protest against the listing of Preah Vihear as a Unesco World Heritage Site. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkfSSly-5qM&feature=related
