Thailand may try to alter history, but Cambodia has the living proofs

Khmer Monuments in Present-day Thailand

Thailand may have been using The Khmer Preah Vihear Temple to stir up nationalism among the uninformed Thai citizens, but with the latest information technology and modern system of communication more and more well-informed Thai people will learn the fact about the Thai and Khmer history.

Abhisit Vijjajiva may have done the Khmer People and Cambodia a huge favor for bringing Khmer history back into light. Now, the world is eying on Cambodia, the many Khmer magnificent Temples, Khmer history, culture as well as Khmer tradition. They will learn that the Thailand has adopted about 70% of Khmer culture, language, etc. and that most of the present day Thailand is the former land of the great Khmer Empire.

More people will find out the truth about the many Khmer monuments such as Prasat Phimai, Phnom Rung and every significant Khmer Temples in Thailand and Laos. The magnificent sites of the former upland Khmer Empire, many of which have only recently become open to the public after excavation and restoration, will open the eyes of millions Thai people who have been purposely put in the dark for many decades.

The yellow shirt people and Prime Minister Vijjajiva will not be able to hide the evidences from the Thai people much longer. There are decent Thais intellectuals who will sooner or later say that “enough is enough” and may rise up against those who have misinformed them for so long just to keep their job and gain popularity.

Hun Sen, on the other hand, may have taken advantage of the situation to boost for his support, but at the same time millions of Khmer people are inspired and willing to learn more about their own past and the history of their ancestors. A few lives may have been sacrificed to defend Preah Vihear and Cambodia’s borders, but the support to Hun Sen will be stronger and that is bad news for Vijjajiva and Hun Sen’s political opponents.

Regardless of our political differences, all Khmer people need to unite as one, including Khmer Lieu, Khmer Krom and Khmer Kandal. We have seen the color coded culture of Thailand which had brought chaotic events to this country for many years. We do not need to alter or fake the history to support our cause nor to stir up nationalism. We do have proofs and evidences left for us in many areas throughout Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and the present day Cambodia--- our magnificent Temples, Monuments and a great culture.

Thailand may try to alter history, but Cambodia has the living proofs.
