Driving in Cambodia? Beware!

http://www.kohsantepheapdaily.com.kh/article/20110407-03293.html

Traffic accidents and violations in Cambodia have increased sharply. Most accidents have to do with human behaviors, vehicles and road conditions.

Here is what we should do in a civilized country:

1- Stay calm and determine the extent of personal injuries or damage. Get medical assistance right away if needed.

2- Call the police to file an accident report. Don’t leave the accident scene.

3- Limit discussion of the accident. Talk only to the police or the insurance representative. Do not discuss fault or liability at the scene of accident or at any time.

4- Report to the insurance company.

But, in Cambodia, Mr. Prum Manh’s behaviors and actions tell it all.

One Cambodian military officer I spoke with stated jokingly that, “Now when people have an accident they would pull out their cell phone. The better cell phone you have, the better chance you win."

"Then you don’t call the police, you call the highest ranking official you know.” The higher ranking you know the better chance you win.

It is much better now, he said, “Before, when you have an accident you would draw your gun,” the better gun you have the better chance you win.

Interesting! Get your latest I-Phone or something and you better know someone higher up.

Even a comedian has more rights!
