The Importance of the Oppositions

In a democratic country, an opposition or the oppositions is/are almost as important and necessary as the Administration. However, it is a must that all oppositions cooperate with the Administration on various important issues that can benefit the country as a whole.

Thai Cambodian border's issue is one of the important issues. It is a political issue that may be changed into violence, if it is not properly handled. The web site is distorted and falsified http://www.ilovethailand.org/videos/id_36/title_lost-territory/ but it can be a double edged sword. It can incite ignorant Thais, but it also can wake up those educated Thai individuals to tell their leaders that such political rhetoric has to be stopped. Not all Thai people are ignorant of their past. Cambodians have nothing to worry about the fabrication, because the world knows that it is not true.

As far as the Cambodian oppositions are concerned, they have not done well with this issue. What the majority of Cambodians have (rightly or wrongly) learned and seen thus far is the kind of opposition parties that oppose on everything that the government does—good, bad and indifferent. So far, the oppositions have failed to produce any solutions or tangible results for the people to see. The most important issue is the actual proof that the oppositions can substantiate and demonstrate (to the people and to the international community) that their organizations are better or more competent than the ruling party. It is well known that the oppositions have a long way to go to compete with the CPP regarding their organizational structures, political infrastructures and managements. If nothing is done differently, they will never have a chance to become the ruling party.

The government has its own weaknesses and problems that need to be addressed. Such problems must be introduced to the people via their representative to seek for better ways. It is the oppositions who have the obligation to help the government with better alternatives. While the government should have its mind opened and stop all forms of oppression; the oppositions cannot just sit around looking to find faults and to blame.

Some personal issues and agenda from both sides should not be brought up in public to muddle up with national agenda.
